Strawberry Passion Fruit Boxcar

We made this on a cool winter night, but I think I could see it quite nicely sitting by a pool somewhere in the sun. Unlike a conventional boxcar, we got rid of the egg whites. For those of you playing along at home, I’m going to rate this about a 6 on a lets-get-drunk scale – nothing too crazy, but they have gotten to C’s head a bit, so there’s your warning.

Here we go!

  • 1 or 2 strawberries
  • ice
  • 3 parts strawberry passion fruit juice
  • 1 part gin
  • 1 part sprite
Drinking time:

Muddle a strawberry in the bottom of a glass.  In a shaker, mix ice, strawberry passion fruit juice and gin.  Poor over strawberries and top with a slash of sprite.

Chicken Corn Chowder

It's pronounced chow-da.

Saturday night dinner; hearty and relatively healthy chowder!

Because of the bacon and all the canned ingredients, this recipe tends to get pretty salty.  Try to use as many low salt or no salt added ingredients as possible!

The Best Bolognese and Homemade Pasta

Looking for that perfect topping for your spaghetti? Meatballs just not cutting it for you anymore? How about a Bolognese meat sauce? This quick and simple recipe that you can cook in less than an hour will have everyone coming back for seconds (and hopefully thirds, this recipe makes A TON)

Awesome Sauce

The best meat sauce ever

So, not only is this the best meat sauce I’ve ever had, it’s also super duper easy to make. This recipe is an adaptation of a LooneySpoons recipe – I like to add red pepper flakes for a bit of kick, lean ground beef, and use hot Italian sausage as well.

Clare and I also experimented with making our own pasta. Turns out unless you are incredible skilled with a knife, or have a pasta press (which we do not), making hand made pasta is tough (unless you like REALLY thick pasta).
